Admission to this department is quite selective; we receive many more applications than we have places. To be competitive, applicants should have excellent grades, GRE scores, recommendations, and must have research interests that are compatible with those of faculty members. While we do not require an undergraduate concentration in psychology, some social science coursework is helpful.By the time the email appeared in my inbox, four other universities—Yale, Princeton, Harvard, and the University of Pennsylvania—had already denied me admittance into their anthropology PhD.Each year the department receives nearly 400 applications to the doctoral program and offers admission to about 6% of applicants.The typical incoming class size is 16 students. The admissions process is extremely competitive, but if you are serious about pursuing a PhD in history, you are encouraged to apply. History professors do scholarship and research in history, in addition to teaching history courses. You do all of the things you just listed: you will be expected to publish a lot (in history I guess that would include monographs, a few books, and some scholarly articles in historical journals), travel to present at seminars, and participate in the grander discussion of your field.I can speak for Cambridge. First, do not tell people that you wrote someone’s thesis for them. This is considered gross academic misconduct; if someone can not write their own thesis then they do not deserve the degree. This would never be accepta.
