The purpose of the week is to make the public aware of the importance of all forms of music in our lives and to encourage participation in the celebration either as a performer or listener.The American Foreign Service Association’s national high school essay contest completed its twenty-second year with nearly 440 submissions from 36 states. Three randomized rounds of judging produced this year’s winner, Jonas Lorincz, a junior from Marriotts Ridge High School in Marriottsville, Maryland.
Samantha Holt was named the Arkansas winner in the 2014 NFMC National Music Week Essay Contest. Samantha is a senior at Valley View High School in Jonesboro, Arkansas. She began playing piano as a young child and is now taking lessons from Dr. J.D. Kelley (pictured). Outside of piano, Samantha has been involved in other areas of music as well.

CFMTA 2019 National Essay Competition The National CFMTA Essay Competition invites submissions of essays on topics related to music teaching, pedagogy or performance practice. This competition is open to all Canadian residents currently attending at the university undergraduate and graduate levels.

As part of National Music Week, the National Federation of Music Clubs offers an Essay Contest. The contest is open to students in grades 7-12. The essay must be typed and not exceed 500 words in length. Membership in NFMC is not required. The National Music Week Theme for 2015 is “Music — the Heartbeat of the Soul.”.

DAR partnered with the National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) in 1996 to sponsor an annual national essay contest in honor of Christopher Columbus. IDC (India Discovery Center), a non-profit organization based in Massachusetts, is organizing a national essay contest on Mahatma Gandhi as a part of its India Heritage Weekend event. The India Heritage Weekend celebrates the centennial of Gandhi’s return to India with a planned set of activities including movies, music concert, exhibition and a lecture.
